2 Things All God-Centered Church Members Do
Humility is the great antidote to pride. Pride can’t live where humility is practiced.

All Christians want to be good church members and like all things involving the Christian worldview, church members need to be God-Centered. If one is man-centered, they tend to only think of themselves and what will benefit them. If one is God-Centered, they will start with God and how they can glorify them. Many churches have died because the members focused on themselves and idols made in their own image.
Thankfully, there are 2 guaranteed things a church member can do to ensure that they remain God-Centered. Those 2 things are prayer and humility.
Pray
All Christians can and should pray. A praying Christian will be humble and grow in holiness. We pray because we are changed by the prayer. A church full of praying Christians won’t fall apart at the seams. Their prayer life individually and collectively will lead them into all righteousness and away from idols.
We pray because we are changed by the prayer.
When Christians pray before acting they likely won’t impact their church negatively. Sinful impulses hurt the church and its witness in the community. It is far harder to hold grudges and unforgiveness when one actively prays. It is also harder to work against the Elders when one is praying for them.
Be a praying church member! Be a praying church! And remember to pray the way Scripture instructs!
Humble Yourself
The other way to be a God-Centered church and church member is to humble yourselves. God hates pride. Pride leads to all sorts of destruction. Pride lifts man to a place he should not be. One of the key ingredients to all dying churches is pride. The members at some point decided that what man thinks is more important than what God has said and began to operate that way.
As the church slowly dwindled there were no doubt multiple people and Elders who warned about the path they were on only to be met with criticism, targeted attacks, and efforts to silence them. Humble church members never wreak havoc that leads to church death. Humble church members never become thorns in the Elders’ sides.
Humility is the great antidote to pride. Pride can’t live where humility is practiced.
The fruit of a church will be defined by the pride or humility of its members. When a group thinks of themselves and their preferences it will affect the church’s health. This is why the strongest churches are not measured by attendance or their financial status but by their level of spiritual maturity.
