Daily Bites Of God's Word Blog Series - Part 2 - Psalm 119:2
Just as we need daily food to sustain us physically, we also need daily food from God’s Word to sustain us spiritually.
2 How blessed are those who observe His testimonies,
They seek Him with all their heart.
This verse connects with verse one, continuing the theme of the blessed person. Verse 1 talked about how the blessed person is blameless and walking in the law of the Lord. And here we see that the blessed person observes His testimonies, meaning you hold fast to them. You watch over them. You keep them. They are a consistent part of who you are. They define you.
Christ is ultimately our identity because His righteousness becomes our own. The hallmark of one who is truly saved is demonstrated in their submission to God’s Word and Christ’s commands. They are obedient. They observe his testimonies. They hold fast to what God has said, not what man thinks.
We see this in a heart that is fully committed to God. We know from Deuteronomy 4 that we are to love the Lord our God with our heart, soul, mind, and strength. Verse two here says “They Him with all their heart.”
It is an obedience that manifests outwardly but originates from the heart of a person transformed by the power of God. They’ve been made a new creature, and they love the law of God. They pursue it and seek to be like God.
